FMCG Drinks: Top 10 Summer Season Smash Hits

Posted by Dave Jordan on Thu, Jul 11, 2024

A little bit of fun this week after the dreary focus on the UK General Election and England performances.

Here comes the world's greatest drink sales guy!

Summer is here and drinks producers across the globe will be battling for an increased share of throat. Whatever refreshment you offer, the challenge to ensure your product is taken off the shelf or out of the cooler and consumed, remains very competitive.

Perhaps the even greater challenge is to ensure your shelf is replenished before your competitors. When the sun is shining, diners are dining and your fridge/cooler is empty then you have really lost a sale. When people need a drink in the heat they will take a competitor product rather than wait for you to get your restocking act together. What went wrong, why and how does this happen?

Seasons in the sun

If your business is summer seasonal then you are running out of time to achieve an improvement this year. However, as soon as the swimming pools empty and the traffic jams to the coast are over you should sit down and look critically at how your S&OP feeds into S&OE and downstream to your Route to Market. If they are not continually fully integrated across all 3 processes then you have a  problem or an opportunity.  If you are not in a summer seasonal business then why not take a critical look at your supply chain now and be ahead of the game when your sales peak appears?

Companies that have stepped back and recognised they are not perfect have all  secured sustainable, increased sales and improved bottom lines. They just needed a little help..........

Music maestro

Ok, that's the serious stuff over so let us have a look at some familiar smash hits which drinks producers will appreciate and enjoy.  At number 1 this week...........

  1. Two Pints Of lager And A Packet Of Crisps Please – Splogenessabounds.
  2. Sprit In The Sky -  Norman Greenbaum
  3. Hot, Hot, Hot – Arrow
  4. Celebration - Kool and the Gang
  5. In The Summer Time – Mungo Jerry
  6. Dry Land -  Marillion
  7. Red, Red Wine - UB40
  8. Champagne - Salt –n-Pepa
  9. Here Comes Summer – Jerry Keller
  10. Here Comes The sun - The Beatles

Any more? Please add them to the comments.

If you are having a successful season this year then very well done. If you are struggling a little then look at how closely your processes are aligned sooner rather than later or you will be one of those companies with difficult Q4s - again!

Help! I need somebody.
